How To Fight Overpopulation In India

Overpopulation In India

Here, we will discuss about the reasons which leads to overpopulation and will provide effective solutions to tackle with overpopulation.

In 2015 India's population was whopping 1.31 Billion and it is predicted that by 2022 India will take over China to become world's most populous country. That's just 5 years from now. Earlier it was predicted in 2028 for this to happen but India's population is growing so rapidly, that it will reach that mark in 6 years advance.
This is not a thing of pride. Overpopulation leads to poverty, unemployment, scarcity in natural resources, leads to climate change, environment destruction, social and religious conflicts. So overpopulation is the root cause of most of the problems faced by India. The condition is really worsened and is visible everywhere like in markets and public places. Reasons Which Leads To Overpopulation

Here are some of the main reasons which led to overpopulation in India:
  1. Child Marriage :- Around 80% girls in India are being married at their young age of between 14 to 20 years. This leads to excessive birth of children in the family without any proper family planning. Moreover, widow marriage is also one factor for overpopulation.
  2. Illiteracy And Unawareness :- According to reports around 36% males and 61% females in India are illiterate. Due to illiteracy people are not aware of overpopulation issue and the problems being faced by the country. As well as people don't know about condoms that how and where to use them. This factor play a big role in rising population.

  3. Birth Rate :- The birth rate is still higher than the death rate. The death rate decreases but birth rate goes higher.
  4. Fertility Rate :- This rate applies for females in the reproductive age, but there is no such restriction for birth rate. However, the fertility rate decreases in India but it is still higher compared to other countries. If fertility rate is 2 than each women is giving birth to 2 children on average. The replacement fertility rate should be 2.2 which means the population is stable.
  5. Other Reasons :- Arrival of Refugees, Lack of social security, Unawareness, Death rate, Poverty, Lack of means of entertainment, etc.

Solutions To Control Overpopulation

First of all let's talk about that solution which everyone thinks that they should be applied in India such as one child policy, forced sterilisation and many others.
One child policy leads to a big failure in China and create imbalance between the gender equality. People in India prefers a male child and same like this Chinese people also think that they should have male rather than female. So the female feticide increases in China and this led to shortage in female growth.
Forced sterilisation in this technique people are sterilised so that they can't give birth to a child. This technique was adopted by India during emergency period in 1976. In this program 10 million people were sterilised and no impact on population growth was noticed. This technique violates the human rights because giving birth to child is the right of every human. Like other solutions this solution is a flop.

Here is the true Solution To Control Overpopulation

Education And Healthcare: This is the perfect solution to control the rising population of India. It is noticed by many countries that where there is high literacy rate is that country has stabled population. In India states which have high literacy rate such as Kerala, it has low population whereas states which have low literacy rate such as Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have the most of population compared to other states. Check out the chart below which explains the relation between literacy rate and population.
